Video -Sharing Networks

Video-sharing networks allow users to upload video content to share with particular individuals or groups or to make available to the world. While you have to have an account to upload content, users don't have to have an account to watch them.

There are many video-sharing networks that all have the same simple premise: Upload and share. GSA has signed agreements with YouTube, vimeo, and blip.tv.

The most well-known and prominently used video-sharing network, YouTube is visited by millions of viewers every day. Users span all demographics, and every minute there are 35 hoursexit disclaimer of video uploaded to YouTube.

HHS YouTube Channels

Vimeo is primarily a service dedicated to creative filmmakers and artists. They have therefore discouraged government accounts as they do not fit into the goals of the company. They indicated the White House accountexit disclaimer,as a unique case and encouraged other governmnental agencies to look for video services that more cater to their needs. At this time, vimeo and HHS are not pursuing a TOS agreement.

Blip.tv markets itself as being focused on video podcasting and weblogging - a series of content-related videos rather than just one or two unrelated entries. Many of these videos are set as episodes in a longer series.

Others…

There are many other video sharing sites out there, two of them being Hulu and GoogleVideo. Hulu is noted for hosting entire seasons of popular television shows online for free and unlimited viewing. GoogleVideo, on the other hand, mostly hosts videos that can be found in the public domain.
